Bodog Flight Club Winner: Timothy "WitchfinderG" McDermott
by Bodog Poker | Aug 26 2009
The latest
Bodog Flight Club winner is 22-year-old Timothy "WitchfinderG" McDermott. He won an all-expenses-paid trip to play in the upcoming WPT Marrakech - Morocco from October 12 to 19 at the Casino de Marrakech, Marrakech. "WitchfinderG" executed an amazing comeback to win when his opponent had more than 18 times his stack. The Flight Club winner will be going to his second big tournament this year after playing in numerous events at the
WSOP this past June and July.
We caught up with the young internet grinder at home in Saint Helena, CA and asked him about the huge comeback to win the big seat. At one point in the heads-up match McDermott had only 4K in chips in left, but he never lost faith and managed to battle back.
"That's something I learned early on in my poker career, never give up as long as you still have a shot to win. Even when I was down to only 4K, I never felt like I was going to lose. I thought that I could beat the guy if I could get some chips to play with, and all I needed was to double up a couple of times. I went all-in pre-flop with an ace in two straight hands, and was lucky enough to win them and double up twice”
Timothy has been
playing poker seriously for four years now and says that he's been a winning player for two of them. He usually gets in 20-30 hours of play each week, and he would play more if he didn't have to commit time towards his B.A. at Sonoma State University. He's also been getting in as much live poker action as possible, and has already developed an appreciation for live poker. He played in three WSOP events this year, including the Main Event. He won his Main Event seat via an online satellite, and now he has won a WPT Main Event seat just a couple of months later.
It's only a matter of time before this young poker talent has a substantial cash in a big tournament and becomes a known player on the big poker scene. But McDermott doesn't limit himself to
multi-table tournaments, and can often be found playing mixed-variation cash games. He's switched his direction away from the holdem MTT's and has begun to pursue the action that he thinks is easier to beat than your average holdem game.
When he was asked where he would like to be in five years McDermott said that he would be happy grinding out a living of $50-$100 per hour playing online. He's not depending on hitting it rich, but he would like to continue to improve and evolve as a player into the future.
