Bodog Mini Poker Series Winner: John 'Getn_Outa_MI' Ormsby

The
2009 WSOP Main Event may still have the November Nine, but
Bodog is already looking forward to the 2010 WSOP. The
Bodog Mini Poker Series final was played out last week and John 'Getn_Outa_MI' Ormsby was the big winner of the $12K package. The final tournament had 82 players who qualified by placing in the top ten of the Series' Tournament Leaderboard, placing in the top 18 of the Semifinal Tournament, or playing in all 13 of the Mini Poker Series events. We caught up to John and he gave us his thoughts on winning a WSOP Main Event seat.
John's win in the Bodog Mini Poker Series was his first big online win in the four years that he's been playing recreational poker. The 25-year-old Michigan native has only been playing since some friends introduced the game to him in college, and winning the WSOP seat is by far the highlight of his poker career, or at least it will be until July of 2010. Most weeks he plays between 10-20 hours online, and most of that action is a
limit holdem cash game grind. John's live tournament action is limited but he does get in the odd session at local Detroit casinos. This recent win is sure to encourage him to practice more MTT action over the next year.
"I hope to go out there early and play in a couple of other events first. I've never played in the
WSOP before. I was in Vegas years ago when I was younger, but it was before I played poker. I know there are also lots of juicy cash games around town to play in during the WSOP, I'm looking forward to all of it."
Ormsby says that he is self-taught and has never joined a poker school to improve his game. Like many players he's read numerous poker books to hone his skills and gain an edge over the average player. Despite playing in numerous
online poker rooms, John plays most of his action on Bodog. He's thrilled about being a part of next year's Team Bodog and hopes to represent the brand to the best of his abilities on the tables in Vegas.
When asked what his
poker aspirations were, he described a down-to-earth outlook for his poker future. "I think it's every poker player's dream to win a WSOP bracelet, but I don't see myself playing poker professionally. I would rather keep it as a hobby at this point."
The hand that put Ormsby in position to win the event occurred when it was down to three players and he had flopped a set. After calling a flop bet he got his opponents' chips in with an all-in bet on the turn. His set held up and it gave him a chip lead that he was able to ride out to the WSOP seat. "I barely remember the hand. I was so excited at what was going on. I knew I had him and I let him bet into me before I made my move."
