Bodog Goes All-In at Poker In The Park

by Bodog Poker | Sep 9 2010

It's quickly become one of the most-anticipated events in a crowded summer schedule and Bodog Poker is proud to help make ‘Poker In The Park' a gaming spectacular that brings thousands of players from around Europe together to celebrate the game they love.  Poker In The Park 2010 took place in London's Leicester Square and featured pros, amateurs, fans and more getting together to learn, play and just plain enjoy poker in all its forms. What's great about Poker In The Park is that it's free, so if you're a Londoner that loves poker, pretty girls and winning prizes, it's the best value out there!

The event was opened by Liv Boeree, who's rightly become a bit of a media sensation in the last few years.  She wins poker tournaments left and right, manages to engage crowds large and small with her advice and frank assessments of the game and, of course, happens to be very easy on the eyes.  Boeree was just one of the poker celebrities on hand for this event.  There were lectures from pros like Ian Frazer, Alex Rousso and Andrew Robl among others.  Dave “Devilfish” Ulliot was also on hand to talk about the game and sign from his new book, Devilfish: The Life And Times of a Poker Legend, put out through renowned publishing house Penguin.  For fans of the game wanting to get some face time with the UK's best players, Poker In The Park was a simultaneously intimate and exciting event.

In addition to the established poker stars that made their way to the festivities, there were a few "Wait, really?" moments, including a boxing ring that was set up in the middle of it all.  It was there that you could meet Evander Holyfield, the former heavyweight champion of the world.  He's been hired as a pro for a new online poker room and while their name was certainly on everything, people seemed more interested in hearing the boxer talk about his glory days.  One of the seemingly out-of-place attractions (that makes sense when you think about it) was the open-air massage parlor; it gave you an opportunity to get off your feet for a few minutes and get a soothing backrub at the same time.

Bodog went in big at this year's event, sponsoring a poker dome in which 80-player sit-n-go freerolls began hourly, giving even the most modestly-bankrolled player the chance to enjoy a large live tournament.  Hands were won, prizes were issued, and the atmosphere in the tent was fantastic, a reminder that no matter how seriously we take it, poker's still a game and should be enjoyed whenever possible.  With crowds eager to play or watch what was happening and the world-famous Bodog Girls everywhere, it was easy to see why so many were having fun around the poker room's tent.

Throw in the crazy late-night parties and overall good time everybody seemed to be having and it's easy to understand why we're counting down the days to next year's event.
