Catching Up With Bodog Poker Pro David Williams
by Bodog Poker | Feb 25 2010
One of the most consistent young players over the last five years has been Bodog
Poker Pro David Williams. The young poker star made a big splash on the poker scene back in 2004 when he finished second in the
WSOP Main Event, cashing for $3.5M.
Williams continued to post money finish after money finish, and since then he has brought his total take to over $6.35M in tournament winnings. 2009 was his slowest year since he first came on the scene, even though he still won almost a quarter of a million dollars in tournament action despite a shortened schedule of play.
Like he has been for years, Williams spends a lot of time on the road playing in different events around the world. Most of his cashes were in the U.S. in '09, and the highlight of his year was a fifth-place finish in the NBC Heads-Up Championship for a $75K payday. He was unable to play a full schedule at the WSOP, but he still managed to cash in two events and narrowly missed winning another WSOP bracelet when he finished fourth in the $1500
Limit Holdem Shootout.
"I had a few cashes in the WSOP although I didn't play as many as I normally do. For the previous four years I've played around 33 events, this year I played 12 and cashed in two, with one final table. Not great but not bad at all. I also made a deep run in the NBC Heads Up Poker Championships and finished in fifth, with this being my first time cashing in the event. I really worked on my heads up game and was excited for the event."
David's 2010 schedule began with a vacation in the Bahamas where he had some success in an eight-game event. After returning to Vegas he dedicated some time to the game of Magic: The Gathering, and recently went to San Diego for the first Pro Tour of the 2010 season. His upcoming poker schedule is very busy as the spring events and the 2010 poker season get into full swing.
"February 23 I will be the only pro representing Bodog in the NAPT 25k High Roller shootout event for ESPN, and then on February 26 I will be headed to LA for the WPT LA Poker Classic at the Commerce Casino. Immediately after I am back to Vegas for the NBC Heads Up Poker Championships again, hoping to improve on last year's finish and as soon as that's over it's off to San Jose for the WPT Shooting Stars event at the Bay 101. Then when I come back to Vegas the $5000 buy-in Wynn Poker Classic Main event starts the following Monday."
