Why NBC's Poker After Dark 6th Season is Worth Watching
by Bodog Poker | Jan 15 2010
Lots of poker shows have come and gone over the last few years, but one of the best has been NBC's "Poker After Dark". Since 2007 this poker show has displayed the single table sit-and-go skills of the best players in the business. It also provides the viewer with an intimate look at a poker game that includes lots of table talk and a ton of prop action. Season 6 of "Poker After Dark" has some interesting lineups scheduled, and this season looks like it will be the best one yet.
The first week of action began airing on January 4 and was another collection of
poker announcers. The name of the game was titled "Commentators III" and features Howard Lederer, Gabe Kaplan, Joe Sebok, Ali Nejad, Mark Gregorich, and Kara Scott. All are returning from last season except Sebok, who hosts UB.com's "Poker2Nite," and Scott, the new floor reporter for GSN's "High Stakes Poker." Both were making their "Poker After Dark" debuts.
The other games that are scheduled include "Nicknames", "He Said She Said", "My Favorite Pro", "Lonesome Shark", "Mixed Martial Arts", "Charity in Mind", and some cash games. The nickname episodes will feature Annette Obrestad, Mike Matusow, Antonio Esfandiari, Erick Lindgren, Phil Laak, and Phil Hellmuth. Obrestad will be making her first North American televised appearance now that she has turned 21, and she's sure to force the action enough to get Phil Hellmuth behaving badly. Those episodes will air this week, starting on January 11.
"My Favorite Pro" episodes will consist of three amateurs and their favourite professional players. Seated will be Craig Ivey, James Ashby, Steve Bartlett, Phil Hellmuth, Jens Voertmann, and Chris Ferguson. That action will air in the third week of April. "He Said She Said" episodes will be a gender-mixed table featuring Erica Schoenberg, Jean-Robert Bellande, David Grey, Karina Jett, Mike Matusow, and Annie Duke.
The cash action will be a $150K buy-in minimum game and a $50K minimum buy-in game, and will include some of the biggest cash game players in the world. Players making an appearance in this game include Chris Ferguson, Phil Hellmuth, Antonio Esfandiari, Brandon Adams, Todd Brunson, and Mike Matusow This action will air during the second half of March.
The "Lonesome Shark" game is a collection of poker's most eligible bachelors and will include Erik Lindgren, James Akenhead, Esfandiari, Matusow, David Williams, and Brad Booth. The "Mixed Martial Arts" game will have UFC announcer Bruce Buffer, Antonius, Strikeforce fighter Dan Henderson, former UFC champion Randy Couture, Lederer, and Lindgren.
And don't forget that "Poker After Dark" will take a hiatus from your television during the weeks of February 15th and 22nd due to the Winter Olympics, which NBC owns the rights to, and will surely dominate the air time at the time.
