Your Quest to Conquer the Tables at the 2010 WSOP Starts Now
by Bodog Poker | Feb 22 2010
It's just about that time of year again when Word Series of Poker satellites are available on every
online poker room on the internet.
The Main Event at the WSOP has grown beyond anything the old-timers ever dreamed that it could be, and thousands of players from all over the world will win a seat in the biggest
poker tournament of the year. The game has grown more for this reason than any other. Amateur players by the hundreds of thousands dream of playing in the Main Event, and winning your way in via WSOP satellite tournament is the best way to do it.
WSOP Main Event champions like Greg Raymer and Chris Moneymaker both won their way into the big tournament via qualifier. They turned a small investment into millions of dollars and poker infamy. Like most players who qualify for the big event online, these players were dedicated to winning their spot, and put in considerable effort to win it.
Just sitting down and playing a satellite when you have the time is not the way to approach your goal of getting into the WSOP Main Event. Being organized with your bankroll and time will allow you to get in the most satellite action that you possibly can.
When deciding on which satellites to play the first thing to remember is the 2% rule. It's advised that at no time should you invest more than 2% of your bankroll in a satellite tournament. The problem with satellites is that most of them don't provide a way to grow your bankroll. All they do is deplete it until you win your seat, if you manage to do it.
Winning a seat to the
WSOP would require that you beat some big odds, and this can get costly if you're not earning it back some other way. Satellites can be a one-way street, so it's important to limit the action to an amount that your bankroll can handle.
There are some satellites that award some cash places - or at least award the buy-in amount to a few players who went deep but just missed winning a seat to the WSOP.
The next thing to consider is your time. Scheduling events to play beforehand will help you get into more tournaments.
If you plan out your action you won't be scrambling to find events that fit into your timeframe or your bankroll limitations. That will keep you organized so you're not spending more than you should be, and it will give you the chance to make sure you're not interrupted as you play your satellite tournaments.
The most important thing you can do with WSOP satellites, with the exception of getting your chips in with the best of it, is to play in as many of them as you can. If your bankroll is low, play the $1 satellites or frequent player points qualifiers.
The more you play, the better your chances. Someone has to win the seat; thousands do it every year. Will you be the next WSOP champion?
