The issue of etiquette in
poker has been widely debated for decades, and conduct rules have been toughening every year in major tournament settings. But the poker fans love to see the wise-cracking slick professionals going at each other in the heat of battle.
Trash talking is an everyday part of the game online, and there are lots of live and online professionals that use trash talk to gain an edge over an opponent who might be affected by this type of behavior. So if televised poker is better with trash talk, but the professional poker tours are cutting back on the behavior, something has to give. Enter the Trash Talk Championships of the World.
The Hard Rock Hotel and Casino will be the setting for a verbally-abusive $1000+$70
no-limit holdem tournament, with the proceeds going to the Sharon Osbourne Colon Cancer Program at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. Half the prize pool will go to the charity while the other half will be awarded to the field as prize money.
The Trash Talk Champion of the World will win the biggest chunk of the prize pool, a 20-pound custom designed crystal trophy, and a World Poker Tour Celebrity Invitational seat in Los Angeles, sponsored by Commerce Casino and ClubWPT.com.
There has been a generous showing of celebrities, both poker and artists, who have confirmed that they will take place in the event. The VIP list will include Playboy Playmate Sara Underwood, artist Michael Godard, photographer to the stars Michael Vincent, FBI "tells" specialist Joe Navarro, professional poker player Antonio "The Magician" Esfandiary, "Rodeo King" turned poker pro Lee Markholt, Dan "Blitz" Bilzerian, High Stakes Poker guest Andrew Robl, cash games specialist Keith Gipson, "Who's Your Daddy" CEO Dan Fleyshman, WSOP Champion Paul Wasicka, professional backgammon and poker player Sander Lyloff, "The Maven VT" David Chicotsky, Brian Rast, and Alec Torelli, just to name a few.
The festivities will begin with a red carpet walk and cocktail reception that starts on Friday, Feb 6 at 2PM, then the tournament will start at 3PM. Other scheduled attractions will include a $100-$200 high-stakes Trash Talk cash game, a silent auction, and a Team Victory after-party at 10PM. The action is sure to be entertaining and should make for a night full of laughs for all involved.
The Sharon Osbourne Colon Cancer Program is dedicated to improving the lives of patients and their families by providing at-home help childcare, transportation services, access to different support groups, and patient care services that are offered within Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.
