Monday's Water Cooler: Aug. 16 Edition

by Bodog Poker | Aug 16 2010

We mentioned Daniel Negreanu's recent online winnings before the weekend, but it looks like another pro may be re-assessing the online game entirely.  It was recently reported on another website that the high-stakes pro has lost almost seven million dollars playing online poker since January 1, 2008.  The staggering amount means that Hansen has lost more money than any other account in the same time period.  As a comparison, Phil Ivey has won over $17,000,000 playing online poker in the same time period.  However, Hansen's live game appears to be undiminished, as he's earned over $7,500,000 in real world events total and continues to earn at tournaments and cash games in Vegas and elsewhere.

WSOP chip leader Jonathan Duhamel will be at Foxwood Casino this week to play in the Mega Stack Challenge XVII starting on Tuesday.  He'll be joined by fellow November Niner Darvin Moon, 2003 WSOP Champion Chris Moneymaker and others. The event runs through next Monday, August 23 and features a number of different tournaments and satellites with buy-ins aimed at players with different bankrolls.  These include $125,000 guaranteed tournaments with buy-ins of $340 and $560 as well as a $1,650 tournament with a guaranteed prize pool of $250,000, bringing the total guarantee at the event to over $500,000.

Jennifer Harman will be inducted into the Women's Poker Hall Of Fame alongside Billie Brown and Kathy Liebert, rounding out the esteemed roll's membership at ten so far.  Widely regarded as one of the best female poker players in the world, Harman has earned more than $2,300,000 and two WSOP bracelets.  While not as famous as Harman, Kathy Liebert also has a bracelet of her own and has won over $5,600,000 playing poker, making her the top female earner in the world.

Billy Brown, the third inductee, is included in the hall of fame for her work as a poker visionary and ambassador.  In the 1980s, she introduced the concept of a guaranteed prize pool to the game and she has been frequently cited as an inspiration for players male and female alike.  Brown passed away in 2004, making her the first posthumously-inducted member in the Hall of Fame.  Other inductees in the Women's Poker Hall of Fame include June Field (founder of Card Player magazine); Jan Fisher (poker journalist and Poker Players Alliance board member); Barbara Enright (first woman to play at a Main Event final table); Marsha Wagoner (18 WSOP cashes and the first woman to earn over $1,000,000 in live winnings); Susie Isaacs (back-to-back winner of the WSOP Ladies Championship in 1996 and 1997); Cyndy Violett (one WSOP bracelet and three final table appearances) and Linda Johnson (WSOP bracelet holder and WPT announcer.)
