There are lots of hands where we have the best of it but never end up getting any value on it. Sometimes the best move is not to value bet your hand but to try to induce a bluff from an opponent. But this can backfire on you if your opponent doesn't bet into you; and you'll end up losing some of the value for your hand. The way to determine which situations call for a value bet, and which call for trying to induce a bluff, depends on the opponent in which you're in the hand.

If the opponent is a tight style player who prefers to play it safe on the river, you'll want to bet your hand for value. If the player is aggressive it may be a better move to let them take a stab at a pot. Most aggressive players can't resist a checked river, and take it as a sign of weakness and an opportunity to steal a pot.
