The concept of being
pot committed is a simple theory. It means that despite the information that points to you being behind, the pot is too big to consider folding the remaining amount of chips in your stack. But many players take this concept and make poor decisions. They don't understand that it's a mathematical decision based on calculating the percentage that your remaining stack compares to the size to the pot. That percentage is then compared to the probability that your hand has up against the likely hand your opponent is holding.
If you have only $10 in chips and the pot is $180, there's no hand that you could be holding that you shouldn't call with. Even 7-2 off suit has better than a 10% chance to win against pocket aces. But some players will call bets that are 30% or more of the pot, when they know they're behind, because they dumped a bunch of chips in there already.
