Today's online professional is almost always playing on multiple tables. This practice is something that you should only do when you've become an experienced player who can handle the speed of the games. A good way to get used to
playing multiple tables is on limit tables. These games are usually played a bit tighter than a no-limit game, so you have more time to get from table to table to play each one.
Limit poker is more of a mechanical style of play, so it's not as important to know the playing styles of your opponents. In a
no limit game you should have your attention on the game the entire time. But limit poker doesn't require that intense of a concentration. Playing on
multiple limit tables will help to tighten up your game because you won't get bored waiting for good cards. You can raise with good hands pre-flop, and get out if you don't hit your flop. You'll also stop dumping chips in hands that you shouldn't be in because you read too much into it.
And don't play more tables than you can keep up with; you should be comfortable with the pace of the games at all times. You don't want to be rushed or anxious during your session. It will lead to mistakes.
