Land Based Poker,
Observing Opponents
July 14 2008
Playing poker in a live casino is the ultimate poker experience. It’s fun to play with friends and online, but the live game puts all your abilities to the test. Every now and then you will encounter players who either have personality issues or have been losing for so long that their behavior is out of control. This is a common occurrence online because players are anonymous and safely located hundreds or thousands of miles away from any confrontation, but dealing with these types in a live situation is a whole other story.
Casinos will tolerate a considerable amount of bad behavior in a poker room, and having a plan to deal with this will be to your advantage. How to deal with a sore loser depends on the loser. If he is steaming and talking about how he can’t win a hand, you should look to get into hands with him. Players that are emotional and negative will make aggressive and desperate moves out of anger, thereby providing one of the most profitable situations you’ll find on a poker table. Trapping this opponent will be easy to do if you can get the cards at the right time.
Sometimes sore losers will forget or overlook that they’re not on the internet, and will habitually ridicule you for a play you have made. You don’t have to tolerate this behavior: Just let the dealer know that the casino needs to deal with this player before the situation escalates. Let the house deal with it because individuals can be very volatile in this situation. You know how mad you get during a bad run; keeping quiet and letting the house get rid of the hothead is the wise choice.
