Multi-table tournaments are the best way to increase your bankroll by a wide margin. We all chase that poker dream where we win a big Sunday event and pocket 100K or more in an afternoon. But the problem with these events is that they are usually costly to enter, and your chances of winning one of them is small, regardless of your playing ability. So these events can quickly diminish your bankroll if you don't finish in the money every now and then.
It's best to follow the 10% rule when buying into a multi-table tournament. Never buy into one that is more than 10% of your bankroll. That gives you ten tournaments to finish in the money. If you can't finish in the money after ten straight tournaments you should be reading poker books and learning how to fare better in this playing environment. If you are that new to the game, cut it back to 5% of your bankroll until you learn some skills.
As your
bankroll grows so will the level of action you'll be in. Eventually you'll be able to afford to play in the biggest games online or live. If you don't limit your buy-in costs you'll just keep going broke and will have to continue to pull money out of your personal life to fund your game.
