It's a common situation in
poker for one player to be
betting with the lead and another player (or more)
calling bets with a drawing hand. The player in the lead is hoping that no cards that can complete a draw hit the board, because they know that their lead will likely be gone. Knowing that this is a common situation can allow you to steal the odd pot from the right type of player, if you have the guts to make the move.
If you're in a hand against a player who has displayed that he'll put down a good hand in the face of a big raise, you can often get away with betting the draw card if it comes. Even if you weren't on that draw, you can make a big bet in an attempt to get the other player off their hand. You just watch to see if they display any type of disappointment when the card comes off. If they do you can try the move on them.
Don't make this move against loose players who might read into what you're doing. And make sure you never try this move on a novice player who's just starting out in the game. They won't know any better and will think their original lead is still good regardless of what comes off on the later streets.
