When playing in cash games it’s tough to figure out when it’s the right time to leave the table. Only you know how things have been running for you, so there’s no golden rule that one can follow to get out at the right time. However there are two basic reasons to leave a game.
If you’ve been running bad and your state of mind has turned negative, it will only take one or two more beats to put you on tilt. Getting out when you start to think that you can’t win will be the best move you can make. In this state of mind you will make mistakes that you would normally not make, and it could possibly evolve into a full-fledged tilt and bust-out. Leaving with some money and some sanity is always your best move. Save some cash for a better playing situation.
The other reason to leave a cash game is if you’ve had a great run and are up a considerable amount. The only thing that’s constant in the universe is change, and if you’ve been running good, that too will eventually change. If you’re able to get out before the luck turns, you’ll be that much better off.
This one is the toughest to do because you’ll be winning, and it will seem like you’ll be leaving an opportunity. You may very well be leaving a bit early before the luck changes, but getting out before a bad run starts is how you make profit.
