Hand Selection

Playing suited connectors will periodically put you a situation to win a big hand. Even medium strength suited connectors have decent winning percentages pre-flop, especially if there are multiple players in the hand. Unfortunately, playing these hands too often can also become a serious leak in you game. But one doesn’t want to give up on the opportunity completely, mucking your suited connectors pre-flop every time.
If you can find the patience to choose when you play suited connectors they will be more profitable over the long haul. Try to wait for situations where you think you can successfully limp into the hand. If there are aggressive players to act after you, passing on the suited connectors may be the best move. You don’t want to be calling down a pre-flop raise with a medium-strength hand like suited connectors too often.
Calling a raise if you have position over the raiser would be a better time to play suited connectors. If you hit your flop, you’ll be in good shape to trap your opponent. And suited connectors are certainly worth making your own raise from a late position if there’s been no action to that point in the hand.
